About the Gallery
Since 2011 The Meeting House Gallery has been a collaborative enterprise between the Oakland Mills Interfaith Center (OMI) and its congregants. OMI provides exhibit space in its facility—The Meeting House—as well as institutional support. A committee of OMI congregants conducts the Gallery’s day-to-day operations. This partnership has been instrumental in advancing the Gallery’s mission of promoting the work of artists and craftspeople from the mid-Atlantic region while beautifying the public spaces of The Meeting House. The Meeting House Gallery has joined the ranks of well-established art venues in the greater Baltimore/Washington area.
The OMI Art Committee selects artists and themes for up to six juried art exhibitions each year. The exhibit space in the 1,800-sq ft Atrium Gallery, with its soaring ceiling and large sky lights, easily accommodates exhibitions with multiple artists. The Atrium Gallery and the meeting spaces in the building serve as a special events venue for outside groups as well as for OMI congregations, affording artists broad exposure for their work. The Gallery’s location, in the public spaces of an interfaith center and preschool, requires that the Committee work closely with artists to ensure that the art’s theme and content are appropriate for all audiences.
Exhibitions feature artwork in a range of media, including oil, acrylic, watercolor, pen and pencil, photography, fabric, mixed media, and mosaic. Walls accommodate 2-D works and low-relief sculpture that can be hung. Two glass display cases are available for 3-D works, such as ceramics, sculpture, carvings, and jewelry.
Commissions from artwork sales, as well as artist application fees, support the Gallery’s day-to-day operations and ongoing improvements to the Gallery space. Unless otherwise specified on the label, all artwork on display is available for purchase. Contact the artist directly to inquire.
Applications from artists are accepted year-round. The Artist Application Packet may be downloaded here, Info for Artists, or requested by e-mail. Artists and visitors are encouraged to subscribe to the Gallery’s mailing list and to follow the Gallery on Facebook to receive notifications about upcoming shows and openings.
The Gallery is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are daily from 8 am to 9 pm; closed on Federal holidays. *Hours of operation may vary, please call to confirm. Religious services are held Friday night through Sunday.
