About kadampa Meditation Center Maryland
Kadampa Meditation Center Maryland is a center for meditation and modern Buddhism. We offer meditation classes in several cities in Maryland including Columbia. Our classes are suitable for both beginners and experienced meditators. People from all walks of life attend our classes – young and old, religious and atheist. The class is perfect for those who want to learn how to meditate or to strengthen their meditation skills, as well as those who want to learn about Buddhism. Everyone is welcome!
The Columbia class meets in Room 400 of The Meeting House on Tuesdays from 7:30-8:45 p.m. There is a fee of $12 per class session ($8 for students/seniors 60+/unemployed).
The teacher is Rick Ratigan, a longtime Buddhist practitioner and sincere meditator who is well liked for his compassion, good sense of humor, and practical teachings.
The typical class structure includes:
- Brief introduction
- Simple guided breathing meditation of approximately 15 minutes
- Practical teaching on how to experience a more peaceful mind and how to solve problems in daily life
- Brief discussion or Q&A if time allows
- Guided meditation on the teaching topic or another breathing meditation
